Blackjack-
Doubling Down and Splitting
|
-Doubling Down-
In Blackjack there are some options that are
good to know, one being the concept behind doubling down.
This option allows you to add to your bet after you've already
recieved your cards. Normally in blackjack you must place
your bet before you've seen your cards, in effect you don't
know what your betting on. Doubling down allows you to add
to your bet if you see you have a good hand. In return for
this privelege you must take one more card. So you can't double
down and take two hits and you can't double down and then
stand. You are not allowed to double down after you've already
taken a hit. Basically your allowed to add to your bet after
already seeing your cards in return for taken one more card,
no more no less..
-Splitting-
Splitting is an option that becomes available
to you whenever the first two cards that your dealt are of
the same value. Therefore if you have to fives or a ten and
a queen, jack or king you may split the hand. This means that
you would actually divid your hand into two separate hands.
Each card of the pair becomes the basis for a new hand. Your
original bet now only applies to one of these hands. To be
allowed to split the pair you must make another wager equal
to your first wager, which will apply to the second hand.
Each of these two hands are totally independent of eachother.
You play out your first hand by either standing or hitting.
Once you have finished with your first hand you play out the
second one. Since your two hands are independent of eachother
you may win both hands, lose both hands or win one and those
the other. In this case you wouldn't win nor lose because
the one would cancel out the other.
