Here are sucker propositions which are to be
avoided at all costs. In each case the inticment is the possibility
of a big payoff idf the bet wins. But the payoff will never
become as it seems. You must stick to the previously discussed
bets, and avoid these at all costs.
-Other Place Bets-
Place bets on 6 and 8 involve a vig of only
1.5 percent. Similar bets are available of 4,5,9, and or 10.
If 4 or 10 arrvie before 7 does, the house pays 9-5. As contrasted
with the proper odds of 2-1. If 5 or 9 come out before 7,
the house pays 7-5 instead of 3-2. The vig on 4 or 10 is 6.6
percent.On 5 or 9 it is 4 percent.
-Buy Bets-
In some casinos, it is possible to get proper
odds on 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 by buying the number on a commision
of 5%. The betting procedure is the same as place bets, except
the player hands over the set number of chips. For example,
the buy a 20$ bet on 9 would cost 21$. The house edge is 4.8
percent. If th player wants to bet that the 7 will apear before
a point and lay the odds, a so-called lay bet costs 5% and
depending on the number reaps the house 2.4-4 percent.
-Big 6 and Big 8-
A place bet on 6 or 8 is not a big deal. However,
the craps layout contains a conspicuously siuated for big
6 and big 8 which pay even money (1 to 1) when the desired
number appears before 7. The house drags down 9%. Anyone who
plays this demonstrates helplessness.
